Abstract: The new generation of an engineer-oriented software enables the designer to perform 'real' 3D calculation and to analyse the overall spatial behaviour of structures subjected to arbitrary loading. The majority of the codes of practice is not keeping up with this progress, which results a void in some fields of structural analysis. The calculation of the spatial structure propels hidden reserves of the structure, but again in case of a not properly modelled structure the calculation may be on the unsafe side. The wider introduction of the new analysis tools brings to arise new problems which are not treated appropriately, so in the near future they should be addressed, answered and regulated in the codes.
