Title: | Deformation analysis during bi-metallic coining operations | Authors: | Plancak M. Hartley P. Essa K. Vilotić, Dragana Movrin, Dejan Lužanin, Ognjan |
Issue Date: | 1-Jan-2012 | Journal: | Steel Research International | Abstract: | This report describes the deformation behaviour developed during the cold forming of bi-metallic components where a solid disc is surrounded around its periphery by an annulus of a different material. The current work examines the principal mode of material deformation for two geometries and considers cases where the outer material may be harder or softer than the inner cylindrical core. In both cases an annular cavity is located within the harder material. Experimental analyses clearly show material flows into this cavity and this is confirmed by finite-element analysis. The latter also provides details of the Von Mises stresses developed during the forming process. © 2012 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
