Abstract: © 2018 IEEE. Determination of electromagnetic field inside and outside of a single high voltage (HV) cable is very important because of its impact on the environment. Starting from complex partial differential equations for complex electric scalar and magnetic vector potentials, electric field strength vector and magnetic flux density vector were determined, together with current distribution inside all conducting cable's elements. The entire calculation was performed for the standardized single core HV cable, A2XS(FL)2Y (former XH(A)E-49-A), with the cross-section 1 × 1000/95 mm2. The problem was treated as the simplified two-dimensional one and it was solved numerically, applying COMSOL Multiphysics 3.5a computer program. The results are given graphically as the diagrams of electric field strength vector, magnetic flux density vector and current magnitude distribution, all in the plane perpendicular to the cable axis.
