Title: Retention behaviour of 1,6-anhydrohexose and D-aldopentose derivatives on silica gel thin layers

Abstract: To study the relation between the chemical structure of solutes and their retention behaviour in thin layer chromatography on silica gel, the retention constant (R M value) of a series of variously substituted 1,6-anhydrohexose and D-aldopentose derivatives were measured as a function of the composition of eight non-aqueous binary eluents. The slopes and intercepts of the linear relations between the retention constants (R M ) and the logarithm of the volume fraction of the stronger eluent component have been calculated applying in adsorption chromatography well-known Soczewinski equation and discussed in relation to the solute and eluent characteristics.
