In this work, a low-cost, robust and compact 2D deflection sensor based on a fiber-optic curvature sensor is presented. The paper discusses sensor design, calibration and characterization under both static and dynamic conditions. A simple experimental setup is devised for purpose of the proposed sensor testing. The acquisition of 2D deflection information is based on standard processing method used with quadrant photodetector which simplifies sensor application. Acquired limits of errors for deflection magnitude and deflection direction measurement are ±0.15 mm and ±2.5° respectively.
