Abstract: The two most common arithmetic operations in DSP are addition and multiplication. Usually these operations, in stochastic signal processing, are performed by AND and OR gates. The purpose of this paper is to show that arithmetic operations on stochastic analog-to-digital delta-sigma modulated pulse density streams are possible. First, the stochastic delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter is presented, then the universal digital arithmetic unit for arithmetic operations on delta modulated pulse streams is introduced. An example of synthesis of low-pass and high-pass filters illustrates an application of the newly developed arithmetic unit.
