Abstract: This paper considers the application of the statistical bifix approach for the optimization of frame lengths and flags used as frame delimiters in data communications, when bit-stuffing technique is used. It is shown that the flag structure represented through bifices influences the probability of flag occurrence in random data and the sequences with more bifices are less probable, which leads to better link utilization. © 2005 IEEE.
