This paper deals with setting and coordination procedure for instantaneous overcurrent relays. Instead of usual deterministic approach in this paper is suggested establishing of a setting procedure based on expected operation damage (expense) which corresponds to actual relay setting. Usage of such procedure implies that probabilities, as well as economic indices, are involved in setting procedure. Abandonment of deterministic approach opens an opportunity for getting solutions that are more economic and where risk level can be specified in advance. The main scope of this paper is to establish all necessary indices and procedures for non-deterministic setting procedure.en
