Abstract: This paper presents an empirical research study of intellectual capital (IC) within Serbian industry of mining and energy. The primary research objective is to define a group of relevant indicators of intellectual capital (IC indicators), i.e. to conceptualize an adequate model for IC reporting adapted to Serbian companies within mining and energy industry. The key value drivers and unique features of IC, identified within the observed Serbian industry, represent the fundamentals of the adequate model of IC reporting. The research findings have revealed that all IC value drivers which should be the mainspring of transition to the knowledge-based business, are identified as major deficiencies in the Serbian companies from mining and energy sector. The defined model simplifies IC measuring and reporting and provides deeper understanding of strengths and weaknesses of IC within the mining and energy sector in Serbia.
