Abstract: Through analysis of the European legislation about protection from noise, the authors point at normative framework implemented in the Republic of Serbia legislation. Special attention is focused on the Republic of Serbia legislation related to this field by studying the level of harmonisation of Serbian regulations on noise of motor vehicles with the European legislation. In the Republic of Serbia, noise protection is regulated by the Law on Environmental Noise Protection, which partially transmits Directive 2002/49/EC on the assessment and management of environmental noise. In addition, it is the consistent application of regulations in practice, to compliance with the European legislation and limit values for noise, it should be worked on noise monitoring in urban areas, the activities of the zoning noise in the spatial planning process, and there is a lack of projects for noise protection and insufficient control of noise emitted by motor vehicles.
