Abstract: © 2015 IEEE. This paper proposes one solution for abstraction of protocols used in a home automation system. Message Queue Telemetry Transport protocol is used to establish network architecture where information about home automation endpoints is distributed to hubs registered to an owner's account. Also, this paper has novel approach to usability of original "smart" devices (smartphones, smart watches, smart TV sets, etc.). A new concept technology that we named "Device in Device" defines those devices as endpoints in a home automation system. Device in Device approach creates a hybrid in a single device: in addition to the existing roles, i.e. control and monitoring of endpoints, it also plays an endpoint in the system. Thus, the approach generates and harvests new and existing information and data in a novel context.
