General overview of photocatalysis and its applications

© 2001, CI and CEQ. All rights reserved. A general overview of the photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide towards the degradation of organic compounds is given. The results related to the oxidative degradation of organic compounds are presented. The influence of various parameters on the efficiency of photolytic oxidation is also reported. The article reviews work on the bactericidal activity of photocatalytic processes. In conclusion, the possibilities of the application of photocatalysis in solving some environmental problems are indicated. The bibliography of work on photocatalysis (compound studied, published material, patents, etc.) by literature citations done up to the year 2000 is included.
