A general overview of the photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide towards the degradation of organic compounds is given. The results related to the oxidative degradation of organic compounds are presented. The influence of various parameters on the efficiency of photolytic oxidation is also reported. The article reviews work on the bactericidal activity of photocatalytic processes. In conclusion, the possibilities of the application of photocatalysis in solving some environmental problems are indicated.
