dc.description.abstract© 2017 IEEE. In this paper the need for advanced modeling and calculation procedures of Power Flow and Short-Circuit calculations caused by connection of electronically coupled energy resources is discussed. Power Flow and Short-Circuit calculations are basic power applications in software packages for transmission and distribution systems management (EMS and DMS). Modeling and calculations of these applications have been successfully performed for the last several decades for traditional systems. However, the nature of transmission and distribution systems has been drastically changed in the last two decades. This change is mainly caused by integration of electronically coupled energy resources such as wind, solar, energy storage, etc. The aim of this paper is to illustrate that traditional modeling and calculations of the basic EMS and DMS power applications are inadequate for emerging transmission and distribution systems, and to indicate to the necessary directions for future research.en
