Abstract: © 2019 Author(s). Cooperative learning was created at the beginning of the last century and it gone a long way to become one of the most common methods of modern education. Therefore, in this research, the influence of this method on the development of metacognition is examined. Metacognition is a consciousness of one's own knowledge, a way of learning and thinking, learning strategies, as well as control of one's own cognitive processes. The survey was performed as a recording of a status on a sample of 32 physics students. For this purpose, a questionnaire was compiled in three parts: general questions, the use of learning methods and adapted Metacognitive Awareness Inventory. The results did not show a statistically significant correlation between the use of cooperative methods and metacognition. However, a final conclusion can not be drawn on this basis, since not all students were familiar with the correct application and benefits of the cooperative method. The obtained correlation from this research sets a good basis for some further and more detailed research in a form of experimental design.
