Abstract: The paper presents the investigations performed in order to define the chemical corrosion causes in the field of building materials, clay roofing tiles. Model systems, prepared from defined components (clay materials, carbonates and peat component), were subjected to broader range of hydrothermal and acidic treatment. The mechanisms of the formation of feldspatoide and zeolite crystals, being the main reasons of initial microstructure and texture destruction, have been defined. The obtained results present the basis for the correlation between the characteristics of raw materials and corrosion stability of the final products in defined environmental conditions. © 1997 Trans Tech Publications.
