Abstract: The C 5-atom of the nicotinamide moiety of NADH undergoes addition-reactions with protons and positive halogen atoms from N-halogen-succinimides; the final products of these reactions were the corresponding 6-hydroxy-(5-halogeno-)-1,4,5,6-tetrahydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotides. A common quantitative mechanism for all these reactions has been worked out, and all kinetic parameters have been reported. © 1987 Springer-Verlag.
