Abstract: The abilities of different types of wood sawdust and wood originate materials for removing some toxic heavy metal ions from water were investigated. Sawdust of poplar, willow, fir, oak and black locust wood, pulp and Kraft lignin were used as adsorbents. The effects of contact time, pH, metal concentration and sawdust particle size on the removal of Cu(II) ions by poplar sawdust have been studied. Leaching from these adsorbents into water during adsorption was also investigated. © Springer-Verlag 2003.
