Ruthenium complexes are potential alternative drugs to cisplatin, some of them demonstrating even better cytotoxic effect [1]. The thermal properties of potentially bioactive compounds are of general interest in their characterization. Besides, the mechanism of thermal decomposition may give some additional data to understand how the thermal properties may affect the biological activity of new compounds. In our previous publication [2] we presented the thermal properties of N-alkylphenothiazines of chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CP•HCl), trifluoperazine dihydrochloride (TF•2HCl) and thioridazine hydrochloride (TR•HCl), their complexes with [RuCl2(dmso)4] and that of [RuCl2(dmso)4]. This time the thermal behavior of RuCl2 complex with 1-methyl-4-(1-methylethyl)-benzene (h6-p-cymene), [(h6-p-cymene)RuCl2]2, and its complexes with CP•HCl, TF•2HCl and TR•HCl of composition (CP•H)[(h6-p-cymene)RuCl3]•2H2O, (TR•H)[(h6-p-cymene)RuCl3]•0.5C3H7OH•1.5H2O and (TF•2H)[(h6-p-cymene)RuCl3]Cl•1.5H2O are determined and discussed in detail. HCl and H2S evolved during the decomposition were detected by the qualitative reaction with acidic (HNO3) solution of AgNO3. [1] Kostova I., Curr. Med. Chem., 13 (2006) 1085.
