Abstract: © 2017 IEEE. The investigation of structural and optical properties of soft tissues is the first step toward properly designed medical devices and interpreting diagnostic measurements. Raman spectroscopy is non invasive, does not require sample preparation and it can detect small concentration of sample even in hydrated environment. Using this technique and having in mind that the first sign of disease in tissue is dehydration as well as higher level of lipids, we have examined the quantitative response of O-H (water) and C-H (lipids) vibrational modes in diseased tissues. As additional technique for structural analysis we have used x-ray diffraction to confirm our assumptions. Our first results will be introduced in this paper.
