A possible influence of a boundary layer between the plasma and a shock tube wall on the Paschen continuum intensities has been checked for a simple boundary-layer model. The results show that the measured continuum intensities, with a boundary layer thinner than 1 mm, may differ appreciably from intensities measured when the thickness of the boundary layer is negligible. It has also been shown that there is a temperature for every electron density when the continuum intensity is independent of the boundary-layer thickness provided it is small compared with the plasma radius. © 1985.en
