Influence of cultivar on the productivity of sugar beet in dependence on locality and year

Abstract

Over period 2008-2010, sugar beet varietal micro trials were conducted within a network trial organized in the Province of Vojvodina which included 6 cultivars and 4 localities. Using ANOVA, it was estimated the influence of cultivar, year, locality and region on the root yield, granulated sugar yield and sugar content in root. Locality had the highest influence on the variation in the root yield, followed by the locality x year interaction and year. Cultivar was much less influential as a source of variation for the root yield. The greatest variation in the sugar content in root was due to the effect of year followed by locality x year interaction and the effect of locality. After comparison of the influences, it was found that the influence of cultivar was higher than in the case of root yield but much lower than the locality or year influences. During the observed period, the highest influence on the yield of granulated sugar was attributed to year followed by locality and their interaction. When compared to the influence of year and locality, the effect of cultivar was rather low. The rank of cultivars was significantly changing depending on the year and locality.
