The aim of this paper is to explore the influence of neuromuscular maturity on the performance quality of graphomotor activity. The sample of 163 children (Mean=7,3 years, SD= 1,25), took tests to assess the quality of graphomotor performance. Tests required good and coordinated activity of a number of the muscles of the hand and of the fingers, visual motor control ad spatial orientation. Within the observed sample more than half (N=90, 55%) of the examinees manifested the muscle hypotonia and therefore, we can assert that at this age it represents a result of a process of maturation neuromuscular structure. Decreased muscle tonus was mostly manifested through numerous movements and interaction of the muscles indicating poor muscle differentiation, especially in case of the children with a muscule hypotonia (N=90). The quality of performed graphomotor activities was as expected at this age; children with a normal muscle tonus had a higher mean and proved to be more successful on tasks then children with a muscule hypotonia. The results point out the necessity for developing and practicing fine motor movements of a hand and fingers even at a preschool age. Through guided activities which will encourage fine motor coordination, it will be possible to achieve better differentiation and to create preconditions for easier mastering of the writing techniques.en_US
