dc.description.abstractA linear polymer chain of arbitrary finite length with a substitutional impurity is considered. The discrete spectrum of the elementary excitations is determined by the Green's function method in the direct space, which allows the detailed analysis of the conditions for the existence of the localized states near the ends of the chain as well as at the impurity. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.en
