Abstract: The chromatographic retention behavior of 3-ethyloxycarbonyl-5-substituted-2,4-dioxotetrahydro-1,3-thiazole derivatives has been studied. The relationship between the RF values of the thiazoles and mobile phase composition was determined for both normal-phase (NP) and reversed-phase (RP) modes. Normal-phase systems were of the type silica-non-polar diluent (hexane)-polar modifier (ethyl acetate, acetone, or dioxane). Reversed-phase (RP) systems were of the type rice starch-polar diluent (aqueous ammonia -polar modifier (methanol, acetone, or dioxane). RM0 values were derived by extrapolation and RM0 values obtained with different organic modifiers were compared. Correlation between RP RM0 values and octanol-water partitioning, log P, was evaluated by plotting extrapolated RM0 against log P.
